Is this still called "Finishing the check"?
Notice in the first frame how McAvoy raises his right shoulder.
The point of contact is his forearm and Gaudreau's head.
Then the rest of the sequence shows his complete follow through with the ref having a perfect view.
Not to mention the attempted knee on knee in the neutral zone that Johnny managed to avoid. |

Andersson and Valymaki both looked good. Stone, no surprise, didn't.
This looks like a loose group right now, playing with some confidence and trying to be creative.
James Neal looks like he's playing for a different team. He cuts left and the puck goes right. He's nowhere near as bad as Brouwer, but I hope he gets it figured out soon. He's made Bennett better, though. |

And yet the Canucks get called out for not doing anything to Matheson while little Johnny gets laid out and not one Flame does a thing. I wounder if Eric Francis thinks this was funny too? |

They actually did go after him. Francis said it was good to see. |

I was at the game last night - they played well. Frolik showed why he's been in the league so long and Smith kept them in it early. That check on Johnny looked pretty high from where I was sitting. |

Sucks that Gaudreau got hurt, but the McAvoy hit wasn't that bad and doesn't deserve anything more than a two-minute penalty for interference. The Gudbrandson hit on Dube was far worse. |

It was late, it was high (though this is like the Chara effect, Johnny is a good 6 inches shorter than McAvoy, kinda hard for the hit to be anything but high).
My biggest problem was that the puck wasn't there and there has generally been a level of respect for size differential that McAvoy lost in the heat of the moment. I don't think it's a suspension, but hopefully Z is having a chat with him. |

So according to Bob Mackenzie the Predators are working on an extension for Pekka Rinne. It’s also rumored to be a multi-year deal.
For me Jusse Saros would be my number 1 trade target but it never made sense that Nashville would be willing to trade him.
“So your saying there’s a chance!”

Can't really fault McAvoy too much. In real time, he goes from he knees facing away from the puck to hitting Gaudreau in about a second. It wasn't a vicious hit. He didn't deliberately target the head and he didn't drive him to the ice. The puck was at Gaudreau's feet and Gaudreau was facing it when he initiated contact. Yeah, Gaudreau wasn't in possession of the puck, so a two-minute penalty was the right call. It wasn't worse than that.

Bob wants 10.5million. While I would agree we have the tandem to get us through this year, what are we doing next year?
Two notable high potential backup goalie trades that come to mind for me:
Philipp Grubauer and Brooks Orpik for a second-round draft pick (No. 47 overall)
Derek Stepan and Antti Raanta for seventh and defenseman Anthony DeAngelo.
I really have no idea what the cost would be, but I would be more inclined to give a couple of assets to potentially solidify our goalie position for 3 years at 1.5 million.

No mention of Andersson?
He looked great last night....I think other than not scoring, he looked better than Vali overall but everyone looked decent....even Stone wasn't terrible |

Don't disagree, still think though that Chara pulls him aside on that one. Last thing the Bruins would want is Pastrnak getting run over in retaliation.
Anyways, Johnny's a gamer and if not for the concussion protocol, I'm betting he finishes the game. |
